In Honor of Mr. Len Thomas

Save the Flags would like to thank Karla Christenson for her adoption of a flag carried by the Third Michigan Cavalry Regiment,SC-119-90, during the Civil War.

Karla’s donation is in loving memory of her dear friend and fellow Civil War historian Mr. Len Thomas. Len was a dedicated teacher and administrator in the Flint Community Schools, a loving father, husband and dear friend to all who knew him and a dear friend to Michigan and Civil War history.

One of his many passions was documenting the graves of Michigan Civil War soldiers, the fruits of his labor are still being reaped by Michigan Civil War historians. In 2012 Len edited the letters of Corporal Harrison Harmon Carson of the Third Michigan Cavalry and Karla’s kind donation is in honor of the Third Cavalry.

Our many thanks to Karla for her continued support and to Len and his wife Sharon for their dedication and support of our project to not only care for the flags, but also to remember the service and sacrifice of the original soldiers and those like Len who strived to make sure they were not forgotten.
