Our Deep Gratitude to Fellowship Lodge #236

Save The Flags would like to extend our deep gratitude to Fellowship Lodge, #236 of Flint, Michigan for their continued and generous support. We were honored with a substantial donation in honor of the Eighth Michigan Infantry and their Colonel--William Fenton, in a ceremony at the site of the Swartz Creek Lodge on June 17, 2025. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Masons and Brothers Austin Conquest, David Norris, and a special thank you to Michigan State Representative David Martin.

The Eighth Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered into service in August of 1861 and it’s colonel was fifty-year-old William Fenton. Fenton, the founder of Fenton, Michigan, served as the Grand Master of the Michigan Masons in 1858, a state Senator, Lt. Governor and Mayor of Flint.  Due to the number and rapidity of its marches, the Eighth would earn the nickname “The Wandering Regiment.”  It engaged the enemy in thirty-seven battles and skirmishes in seven states.
